Week 10
Sorry for the delay in posting. Everything is continuing to heal well. As the doctor said, I will have some dark discoloration for about 8-10 months after surgery. I’m still using Vaseline every night before I go to bed. Here’s an updated picture, taken this morning…
To answer Mike’s question: They gave me 2 options. I could have half of it taken out and then the other half at a later date OR I could have it all taken out and then scar revision or have the scar removed at a later date. I chose the latter so I wouldn’t have half scar/half ink on my back. That to me was just as embarrassing as the full tattoo being there. You can find some pictures like that of Geri from the Spice Girls. You can see her scar and then the laser marks. This picture is what made me not choose that option…

Mike replied:
Thanks for the update. OK, I did not know you were planning to have scar revision later on. I had my second treatment recently on October 22, and this was 4 months after the first treatment, so only had the remaining ink for a short period and don’t need to get scar revision anymore now. But I understand also your choice. It seems to be healing quite well!

I will probably sound stupid but guys I envy you so bad…I have an appointment next Friday with the doctor to discuss about the options…I have one choice, excision instead of laser! I am just afraid the doctor won’t be ok, I have a lot of good reasons on my side and hope I can talk about them with him in an intelligent way…
Mike where was your tattoo? On you shoulder? I read they don’t practice excision a lot there beacause there is no loose skin…
Please let me know!
Thanks to yoi all of you for all the posting!

Hi Lulla, my tatto was on my upper arm, so not really the shoulder. There was enough loose skin to have it done in 2 treatments. The advantage of having it done in more treatments is that the skin will not pull the scarr too much. My last treatment is 3 weeks ago now, and at the moment the scar is not wider than a pencil stripe, so really thin

Hi Guys!
I had my appointement with the doctor today and unfortunately I think I will have to go with the laser…the location of my tattoo doesn’t allow a excision and will anyway leave a big scar beacuse of the fact that it’s RIGHT on my shoulder and that it’s a location of the body that “works” all the time… I will have few sessions and will see how it goes…I am sad but relieved at the same time…

Hi everyone,
I have a question I have a flower in the middle of my lower leg and want it removed badly! I have already had 3 laser treatments last year and the color did not change. Will this be a good enough reason for them to do tattoo excision and the fact that I don’t care about scarring?

Hi, I have a question for you. How does the use of the hydroquinone cream work for you now? Weeks ago you said you would start using it so the scar would become lighter. However in your last post you say that you will have dark discolouration for 8 months? That does not really sound logical to me if you are using this cream? Or did your doctor tell you to stop using the cream. And why the dark discolouration, is it because of your too early sunbathing again then?

Wow, that is looking pretty good. Where does one go about doing tattoo excision? Is there a particular plastic surgeon to go to, or do all of them do this procedure? Thanks for any info. I am also located in Southern California if anyone has any recommendations.

I have an appointment tomorrow to see about excising my tattoo. Wish me luck! I’m hoping they can do for me, what they did for you… take it all out and fix the scar later.

MB, you have to ask around I’ve found. Not all of the surgeons will do an excision on a tattoo. Just some, so just ask around.

Could this procedure be done on a small tattoo located on the side of the calf? Thanks for any info.
